Wink Vintage

Crazy cool carvings from the Pacific Northwest!

Chris Young is the amazing artist behind Frog Island Tikis. Chris’s journey into tiki carving began over 20 years after a trip to Maui. Chris’s works are inspired by Polynesian culture, but rather than follow traditional ways, Chris puts his own rather twisted view on the matter and builds each tiki with a protective edge to watch over the owner's well-being.

Most of the carvings are made out of redwood or cedar. Chris starts his carvings with a chainsaw and then adds those fine details with chisels, files, and knives to make his carvings pop. Each piece he creates carries his distinctive style and is truly a work of art!

Frog Island Tikis

Chris Young, the artist behind Frog Island Tikis, has been carving tikis since 2000, where he was inspired by a transformative trip to Maui. Chris works primarily with cedar and redwood and rather than utilizing traditional methods and reproducing designs, Chris has a style all of his own.

Chris starts with a chainsaw and then really homes in those fine details with chisels, files, and knives. Chris has said, “I have read that the ONLY way to breath life into an idol is through use of hand tools, but if primitive man had access to a chainsaw I know he would have used it.” While you may have seen Chris and his beautiful creations out of state at other tiki events, he is located right here locally, in Gresham, Oregon.

Frog Island Tikis has created a variety of carvings, lamps, and one-of-a-kind works of art. Each piece is full of personality and Chris’s unique style. Whether you’re looking for a standout piece to take home or simply want to meet the artist behind these distinctive creations, be sure to stop by Frog Island Tikis at Beachcomber Bash!
